This one feels like you’re pulling a heavy pair of pants up to your armpits, which is weird, but really good for you.
HOW TO DO IT:
- Hold dumbbells by your side
- Stand with feet shoulder width apart, toes pointing forward
- Keep back and neck in a straight line throughout the movement
- Bend knees slightly, then push your hips back (like you’re starting to sit in a chair) to lower your torso
- Bend forward at waist until torso is parallel with the ground, arms dangling toward ground
- Keep your weight on your heels
- Slowly lift your torso back to starting position
- Slowly pull your elbows back and lift weights by your side
- Squeeze your shoulder blades together and hold for a sec
- Slowly lower weights and repeat entire movement
NO WEIGHTS?
- Hold water bottles, milk jugs, canned food, loaded bags, etc
- Loop an exercise band under your feet and hold it
MAKE IT COUNT:
- Do as many as you can
- Literally – don’t stop until you can’t safely complete another rep
MAKE IT EASIER:
- Do it without weights, but still squeeze your shoulder blades at the top!
- Only bend over half way
MAKE IT HARDER:
- Use heavier weights
- Add a Scoop Press
- At the top of the movement, rotate elbows forward and press weights overhead
- Slowly return to elbows-back position, then lower weights
- Repeat entire movement
- Do a second set
MAKE IT FUN:
- Share this with a friend so you have a workout buddy!
PRACTICAL USES:
- Walking while holding heavy things
- Loading things into your trunk
- Pulling on your pants
- Lifting bags from the floor to the counter
- Catching kids (or lovers) when they jump into your arms
